Joe Biden and Kamala Harris named Time's Person of the Year
Time magazine has named Joe Biden and Kamala Harris 2020's Person of the Year.
The two made history on November 7 when they beat Donald Trump in a bitter election that put him in a small club of presidents who served only one term.
Harris on that day became the country's first female, first Black and first South Asian vice president-elect.
"For changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are TIME's 2020 Person of the Year," wrote Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal.
Time magazine's tradition of singling out an especially influential person started in 1927, launching as Man of the Year.
The name was later changed to Person of the Year, which is bestowed on an individual, a group, a movement or an idea that had the most influence in the past year, abc7 reported.
Dutch expel two Russian diplomats for suspected espionage
The Netherlands on Thursday ordered the expulsion of two Russian diplomats accused of spying on the Dutch high-tech sector, the AIVD national intelligence agency said.
As reported by Reuters, the latest diplomatic incident will likely raise tension between the two states, already at odds over the murder trial in the Netherlands of three Russians for the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014.
The Dutch government would review legal options to fight espionage by foreign diplomats in the Netherlands, who currently enjoy immunity from prosecution.
One of the diplomats, working for the Russian foreign intelligence agency SVR, “occupied himself with spying in the technology and science fields,” the AIVD said in a statement.

The Netherlands presented no evidence of unlawful acts by the Russian diplomats, Russia’s embassy in The Hague said, according to the Interfax news agency.
Russia will give “an adequate and timely” response to the expulsion of the Russian diplomats, Leonid Slutsky, head of the lower house of the Russian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, was quoted as saying by Interfax.
In April 2018, the Netherlands disrupted an attempt by Russian intelligence agents to hack the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague.
Four Russians who were caught with spying equipment at a hotel located next to the OPCW headquarters, were expelled.
The second spying incident in as many years has prompted the Dutch government to review ways to make foreign spying punishable, the AIVD said.
Ellen DeGeneres tests positive for Covid-19
“Hi everyone, I want to let you all know that I tested positive for COVID-19,” DeGeneres, 62, wrote in a Notes app screenshot posted to her social media channels. “Fortunately, I’m feeling fine right now.”

DeGeneres also revealed that she had already notified close contacts and was “following all proper CDC guidelines”.
An insider confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that production on her show will now be paused until January.
LA county, where her show films, is continuing to see a rise in cases, with 9,243 on Wednesday, the second highest daily total since the virus first started, according to Guardian.
Reports of DeGeneres’s alleged mean-spiritedness and backstage turmoil prompted a taped mea culpa. “If I’ve ever let someone down, if I’ve ever hurt their feelings, I am so sorry for that,” DeGeneres said at the time. “If that’s ever the case, I’ve let myself down and I’ve let myself down as well.”
Gold price forecast – gold markets recover slightly on Thursday
Gold markets have pulled back just a bit on Thursday but found buyers yet again as the US dollar has been falling during the trading session.
Gold markets initially pulled back a bit during the trading session on Thursday but have turned around to show signs of life again. Looking at this chart, it looks as if the 50 day EMA above will be resistance near the $1871 level, but ultimately, I do think that we get above there. The pullback on Wednesday makes quite a bit of sense due to the technical analysis impacted the 50 day EMA, but ultimately if we break above there and I think we will come the market will go looking towards the $1900 level, perhaps to the $1950 level.

To the downside I believe that the 200 day EMA sits around the $1805 level, and that of course we have the recent turnaround from just below there. Ultimately, this is a market that I think will eventually go higher but obviously you will have to take your cues from the US dollar, and the general risk appetite overall. I think that the central banks around the world continue to flood the markets with liquidity should continue to be a major issue. All things being equal, I believe that this is a market that has further to go to the upside and look towards the $2100 level. That is the most recent highs and therefore I think is the target, but it will be very choppy and noisy, FX Empire reported.
